Introducing Warrillow, the dedicated vegan millinery studio.

Our mission is to encourage the world to wear more vegan hats and share in our passion for ethical and handcrafted goods.
— Warrillow mission statement

Over the past 10 years, the fashion industry has made great strides towards being more ethical. First we moved towards getting rid of fur on our high streets, and then brands like Patagonia and ESPRIT paved the way for a more sustainable fashion industry.

Despite increasing consumer pressure around the world for fashion brands to be transparent about their materials and practices, we still have a lot of work to do.

As a relatively niche industry, millinery has always been rooted in traditional practices, typically celebrating themes of heritage, high-society, and couture. And while materials like fur have been largely stamped out of other fashion industries, millinery seems to have been a little overlooked. In fact, it’s quite difficult to find a hat, headpiece or fascinator that doesn’t feature some use of feathers, silk, animal fur or skin.

Having been on a personal journey to veganism in my diet and personal life, I then had a decision to make regarding my work. Should I stop being a milliner altogether, or should I, seemingly, restrict my designs to being completely vegan themselves. Could I even create headpieces that were up to standard and could stand out from the crowd this way?!

I did my research, I emailed lots of suppliers, I looked at new materials, experimented and learned new techniques... Of course stylish, fabulous headpieces can definitely be cruelty free too!

Six months later, Warrillow was born.

I am proud to say I only use materials that I am certain are vegan. I use a mix of traditional and modern millinery techniques to make beautiful, whimsical, handcrafted hats, fascinators, headpieces and other accessories. My designs are all handcrafted at my home studio in Birmingham, West Midlands. I never outsource production overseas, and the packaging I use comes from completely recycled or sustainable sources.

I'm not just here to make headpieces. I love animals too, which is why I do what I do the way that I do! I would love to show the world that it’s possible to create fabulous, durable and stylish hats without hurting or using animals. It may take a bit more effort to find the right materials and cost a little more to create, but a good hat is something you’ll use for years, and it’s worth the commitment.

I know what I do won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I am a firm supporter of ethical, sustainable and slow fashion, and I want to do my bit to make a difference.

I know I’ve still got a lot to learn and I will continue to work hard to find new ways to ensure this is a completely transparent, vegan company.

Help me push the fashion industry in the right direction, one hat at a time.

This is just the beginning.
